Topic: Abutments On MC XL

Hi Alex,
I am wondering if it is possible to manufacture abutments with the new ti bases on the Cerec AC with the MC XL milling unit, or is it only Inlab MC XL and why??

Cheers

HI Richard!  The factor that you must consider is that the mesostructure is made of zirconia - therefore it must be sintered prior to bonding to the ti base.  While appropriate burs can be inserted in the MCXL clinical machine for milling you will need a high-dollar sintering oven for processing.....hope this helps.

my understanding is that it will initially be released as inlab to try to keep labs happy.  after that we will likely have access to the tech.  we'll have to get a sintering oven for it (12k or more) and it takes quite a long time (8 hours) to sinter zirconia right now.  i couldn't get really definite answers on when it will be available, but they thought it was going to be may.  may looks like it will be pushed back.  i think they said the fda is dragging its feet a bit here.  as soon as clearance is given we can send out to labs for it.

total speculation here but i suspect that the reason they are giving it to the labs only at first is really because there aren't too many people using cerec connect. they will get more dentists involved with it if we actually NEED a lab for some aspect of cerec.  that is my thought.  it may be incorrect but i doubt it.
